Antique English Battersea Enamel Box
Item Details
Description
Antique English enamel snuff or trinket box. These are often referred to as Battersea enamel, but similar enamel wares were also made at Bilston or South Staffordshire. Circa late 18th or early 19th Century.
The cover is painted in black enamel with a gentleman holding what appears to be a riding crop, a lake and buildings in the background, with the saying "Trifles show respect." The spelling is normal for the period. The body is enamelled in an aqua color which appears more green on the sides, more blue on the base.
Overall nice condition, with a bit of crazing, especially on the lid, and two small chips on the base.
