Description
Rev. War Soldier James Lemar Land Grant for Services Rendered During the War

2pp, measuring 8.25" x 3.5", Augusta, Georgia, dated November 1, 1785. A land grant certification document made on behalf of James Lemar for services conducted during the Revolutionary War. The document states, "This is to certifye [sic] that James Lemar hath stedfast [sic] Done his duty as a sitizen [sic] in Defending of this and the United States & that as to my knowledg[e] he cannot be convicted for plundering of this state in any wie [sic] therefore I think that he is intitled to a bounty of 287 1/9 acres of Land…" Signed by Lemar, along with additional signatures "E Clarke Coll" and "R Middleton". With a sworn statement on verso by Lemar. The document has flattened folds, edge bumping, and minor chipping. Toning and foxing throughout. Two small areas where the ink has bled. Boldly signed by all.

Looking at historical records, it is possible that this document refers to John Lamar Jr. (his name having been misspelled in this instance), born July 17, 1762. Lamar served under Generals Marion and Pickens and saw action at the Battles of Eutaw and Cowpens, the Siege of Augusta, and several other engagements. During his service, he was once captured but managed to escape, and he was wounded three separate times during the war.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
