Description
A George III sterling silver coffee urn, London 1785 by Thomas Chawner Of shaped ogee tapering form upon a pedestal foot with shaped square form base upon four ball feet. Twin reeded loop handled with an upper shell junction, the reed tap with a rosette decoration spigot with turned ivory knop. The pull of lid of high waisted form with a domed centre surmounted by an urn form finial. The body with bright cut engraved decoration of a band of trailing rosettes against a striated ground, other wise with lunettes and floral swags adjoined by oval rosettes. The front and back with a bright cut oval cartouche, the front engraved with contemporaneous initials WBL in flourished cursive script. Fully marked underneath and to lid bezel, also with Dutch tax mark crowned V (1814-93). Height – 36.6 cm / 14.5 inches Weight – 1169 grams / 37.58 ozt
