Description
A WESTERN ASIATIC SILVER REPOUSSE RHYTON
Western Asiatic Region, 8th to 12th century. The slender horn-shaped vessel terminating in a protome in the form of the foreparts of a ram with large backward-curving horns, the joint masked by a thin cuff. The vessel applied with a small circular platform to keep it upright, most certainly a later addition.

Condition: Good condition with old wear as expected and commensurate with age. Losses, small dents, and minor nicks.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
