Janis Joplin's Lindell Mandolin Given to Jimi Hendrix
Item Details
Description
Janis Joplin's Personally Owned Lindell Mandolin Hand Painted and Given to Jimi Hendrix Acquired From Memphis Music Hall of Fame W/Letter of Provenance and COA - This Lindell mandolin was personally owned by iconic rock and roll singer, Janis Joplin. Joplin was one of the most successful and widely known female rock stars of her era, and still remains one of the top-selling musicians in the United States with RIAA certifications of 15.5 million albums sold. This mandolin is hand painted with flowers and phrases such as "Love Thy Neighbor" and "Janis Joplin & B.B.H.Co" along with the name "Jimi Hendrix". The mandolin comes with a certificate of authenticity from Jimmy Velvet's The Legends Collection, which states that the piece was acquired from the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. The piece will also come with a letter of provenance from Velvet's wife Robin which states in part, "an interesting conversation had taken place via the internet in 1999 while I was preparing an auction and doing research. A gentleman who stated that he was in fact, Janis Joplin's brother, felt that the mandolin had been a gift from Janis to Jimi Hendrix instead of what I had been told, that the mandolin was a gift to Janis from Jimi. This is a once in a lifetime piece of rock and roll history documenting a friendship between two of the most iconic rock and roll musicians of all time. The mandolin is displayed in the original museum display case from the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.
