Description
William Irvine (1741-1804) General. Irvine served as a brigadier general in the American Revolutionary War and served in the western theater. After the war he served in the Continental Congress, and later played an active role in ending the Whiskey Rebellion in Pennsylvania. He also served two terms in Congress representing Pennsylvania. 8” x 9 ½” letter signed, Indian Department, Philadelphia, March 31, 1804, to Joseph Clay. “…Furs and pelts from the factory of Philhinson…the skins on re-weighing…over run lbs 16thew were in pretty good order….” There is a mounting strip on the reverse, at the top, some staining and fade to the text. Irvine’s signature is clear and dark.
