LEROY NEIMAN "PRESIDENT'S BIRTHDAY" Hand Signed!
Item Details
Description
HAND SIGNED LITHOGRAPH. CUSTOM FRAMED WITH A TRIPLE MAT. FRAMED IN A BLACK/GOLD FRAME.
LeRoy Neiman’s remarkable image freezes this historic moment and its extraordinary celebrants in time. The music world sent its finest to the party: Bobby Darrin, Maria Callas, Ella Fitzgerald and Harry Belafonte all sang that unforgettable night. But the evening is perhaps best remembered for the beauty and presence of the incomparable Marilyn Monroe. Neiman has placed her in the foreground, singing “Happy Birthday” to the obvious delight of Kennedy and his admirers. They included the most prominent figures of the day. Lyndon Johnson would assume the presidency barely eighteen months later. JFK’s brothers Bobby and Teddy were present, and Neiman has captured in their likenesses the clear-cut features and expansive smiles so unique to the Kennedy clan. Adlai Stevenson, Ambassador to the United Nations, New York City Mayor Robert Wagner and Madison Square Garden Chairman Irving Mitchell Felt all graced the party as well. John F. Kennedy, like LeRoy Neiman, is known as a master of style and an efficient, eloquent communicator. Kennedy used lean, tough oratory to convey his unique outlook on life. Neiman, as can be seen in “The President’s Birthday Party,” makes particular good use of incisive, vigorous brushwork and a special sensitivity to color to share his artistic insight.

LeRoy Neiman enjoys a richly deserved international reputation as an artist. He was without a doubt one of the most popular and widely recognized artists on the contemporary world scene. His appeal, as well as subject matter, is broad & universal. He sketched on location, and later in his studio developed these sketches into painting. Neiman studied at the Art Institute in Chicago & spent the following decade there as a member of its faculty. His work has been exhibited in museums & galleries around the world, among them; the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh; the Corcoran in Washington, DC; the Indianapolis Museum of Art; the Musee de Peaux-Arts in Artes, France; Musee de Pellas Artes in Caracas, Venezuela; and the Gallery Florentina d’Arte in Florence, Italy. Mr. Neiman passed away in 2012.
