Gerson, Johannes. DE STATIBUS ECCLESIASTICUS; DE SIGNIS RUINAE ECCLESIAR SERMO; DECLARATIO DEFECTUUM VIRORUM ECCLESIASTICORUM; DE MODO VIVENDI OMNIUM FIDELIUM. [Augsburg], [Johann Froschauer], [ca. 1505]. 7.25" x 5.5". [16] leaves, A-D4. Bound in 20th century vellum-backed paper boards. *********** The author, Jean Gerson (1363-1429), was a French scholar, reformer, Chancellor of the University of Paris, and a prominent theologian at the Council of Constance which ended the Western Schism. The present work was printed in Gothic letter using Froschauer's type 6, which was not used before 1503; the printing date is generally believed to be around 1505. [ISTC ig00273000; Goff G273; HC 7667; Bod-inc G131A; BSB-Ink G-152; VD16 J586] * Provenance: Early ink inscription to final leaf not deciphered (see photos.)
Condition
Covers dust-soiled, contents with some foxing or similar spots of soiling, a few front margins bumped near end causing very short closed tears to front margin of 6 leaves.
