Mary E. Monk (American, Late 19th century). "Birds", oil on canvas, signed lower left. Trompe l'oeil painting depicting two small game birds, likely woodcocks with brown feathers with feet tied with string dangling at center against a stark wall. Unframed approximately . 16.125" x 12.125".
Item unframed. Wear to paint on edges of work (likely from rubbing on edge of early frame). Under black light examination, in-painting visible extensively throughout background, on the eye of the right dangling bird. Verso of work with four rectangular patches for earlier tears. Paint layer stable without signs of lifting. Losses to canvas on sides of stretcher. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
