Aristotle Figural French Bronze Mantle Clock. Large bronze figure of philosopher Aristotle wearing a robe and laying on his side, he holds a scroll in one hand which reads " la bonheur nait de la vertu" (Happiness Comes From Virtue), the 2 tone bronze base has a gilt finish and dark brown patina with flowers and filigree on large lion claw feet; case is signed with foundry stamp "H. Picard" for Henri Picard (French, 1840-1890) and numbered 4474. The 4.25 in. porcelain dial is signed "Raingo Fres, Paris", has black Roman hour numerals, pierced trefoil hands, hinged door bezel and beveled crystal; typical round French brass 8 day spring driven movement signed "Raingo Frere, Paris" has an hour strike on a bell. Clock is in very good and clean condition, missing pendulum. 20 in. high x 23.5 in. wide x 7.5 in. deep. Weight: 60 lbs.
